Thirty Years of PlayStation Dominance: Former Sony Executive Reflects on the PS Story, Once Overlooked by Many.
December 14,2024,06:50 AM GMT+8As the mobile game market enters a stage of saturation, more and more domestic manufacturers are setting their sights on console and PC platforms. Many companies have already released console games or have plans to launch console versions.
In today's game console market, Sony is one of the largest game publishers and a key player among the 'Big Three' console manufacturers. It is also one of the preferred platforms for domestic games. Notably, several domestic games were prominently featured during Sony's State of Play event in June, including 'Yan Yun Shi Liu Sheng,' 'Infinite Warmth,' and 'Covenant of All Things.' Additionally, titles such as 'Black Myth: Wukong' and 'Shadow Blade: Zero' have confirmed their PS versions.
Since the release of the original PlayStation in 1994, Sony's home gaming console has a history of 30 years. Recently, foreign media outlet EuroGamer interviewed former Sony Worldwide Studios President Shawn Layden, reflecting on the behind-the-scenes story of the initial launch of PlayStation. He discussed the groundbreaking success of the PS amidst fierce competition, the 'Icarus moment' during the PS3 era, and the ongoing battle for industry dominance that PlayStation has been engaged in.
In the interview, he mentioned that Sony's entry into game console manufacturing was quite accidental, and many people within the company were initially reluctant to get involved in this emerging business. 'We fought a long battle to get this machine to bear the Sony name,' he said.
